Is intuitive eating the same as mindful eating? Maybe you’ve heard the words “intuitive” and “mindful” used interchangeably. In this article, I’ll teach you what you need to know about intuitive eating vs. mindful eating. 

What is Intuitive Eating? 

Let’s start with Intuitive Eating. Intuitive Eating is an integrative mind-body approach to honor your health. It includes 10 principles that help you listen to your body, develop body respect, and implement nutrition for the right reasons. Emphasis is placed on the cultivation of healthy behaviors versus weight control.

Intuitive Eating vs. Mindful Eating 

According to the Center for Mindful Eating mindful eating brings attention to one’s food choice and the experience of eating. It’s all about paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment. 

As you can tell, Intuitive Eating includes elements of mindful eating, like paying attention to your body and food. But Intuitive Eating casts a wider net than mindful eating. 

Think of it as an umbrella. If Intuitive Eating was an umbrella, mindful eating would fall under it, among other principles.

Which One Do I Practice?
