I’m a registered dietitian who loves meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking healthy meals at home. Here are the healthy Costco finds I was excited to see on my latest grocery haul.
Healthy Costco Finds From A Registered Dietitian
Costco can be overwhelming if you go in without a plan. My plan for this trip was primarily to stock up on pantry staples and less about finding fresh produce. Perhaps next visit I can create a Costco guide to produce for you – is that something you’d be interested in?
Here is a complete list of the items on my latest Costo haul:
- Organic Riced Cauliflower
- Organic Dark Sweet Cherries
- Frozen Organic Blueberries
- Dave’s Killer Bread
- Kirkland Basil Pesto
- Fage Total Greek Yogurt
- Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Spray
- Kirkland Ground Cinnamon
- Peanut Butter Pretzels
- Kind Bars Variety Pack
- Kirkland Almond Butter
- Kirkland Peanut Butter
- Culinary Treasures Vegetable Broth
- Spindrift Variety Pack
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Let’s take a closer look at why I love these items.
Freezer Items for Smoothies
I love frozen fruit for smoothies, even in the winter. Smoothies are a simple way to enjoy more fruits + veggies + fiber, under the principle of gentle nutrition.
I’ll be using the frozen cherries for my favorite Chocolate Cherry Smoothie and the frozen blueberries in my “Go-To” smoothie combo.
Plus, I might even toss the frozen riced cauliflower in a smoothie. If the idea of adding veggies to your smoothie sounds crazy to you…hear me out. Cauliflower has a very mild taste. I promise the fruit flavor will mask the cauliflower. You get the fiber and vitamins without even tasting the veggie!
Pantry Staples
With soup season upon us, I grabbed an 8-pack of vegetable broth. I can’t wait to make my Comfort Minestrone Soup and favorite Golden Lentil Soup.
For fall baking, I stocked up on a giant cinnamon jar – my favorite warming spice. I use this in several muffin recipes and my morning oatmeal.
Lastly, I like to use the avocado oil spray for roasting vegetables in the oven at high temperatures. And the giant olive oil is an essential ingredient for every weeknight stir fry or homemade dressing.
Fun Snack Foods
As a part of my nutrition philosophy, I believe that all foods can fit as a part of a healthy eating pattern – including convenience foods. I grabbed the peanut butter filled pretzels and KIND bars for quick snack options. Plus, the peanut butter and almond butter. I’m always eating fruit and nut butter as a balanced snack.
Fridge Favorites
With Dave’s Killer Bread, I typically put one loaf in the fridge to have that week and one in the freezer to enjoy at a later date. It’s high in fiber, which is great for balancing blood sugar and promoting fullness.
To round out my cart, I added the basil pesto for pasta night, Greek Yogurt as a fridge staple, and my favorite sparkling drink, Spindrift. I was most excited to see the Spindrift variety pack available at Costco!
Other Notable Finds From Costco
I could barely scrape the surface of everything available at Costco in one trip. So here are some additional items that I want to make a point to grab next time:
- Rao’s Marinara Sauce
- Banza Pasta
- Kodiak Cake Pancake Mix
- Simple Mill’s Crackers
- Banana Plantain Chips
- Vital Protein Collagen
